NOMAN is an Island 2013: Row to End HPV – pits two teams of 5 amateur ocean rowers against each other to
race across the Mediterranean from Barcelona to Ibiza on July 22, 2013. The route is 200 miles and the journey
should take 3 days. Upon arriving in Port of Ibiza, the crews will be welcomed by friends, families and supporters
for an Ibiza celebration. NOMAN seeks to raise awareness about an important public health issue while
challenging participants to an extreme endurance challenge. The race aims to raise awareness about HPV – the
carcinogen that causes 5% of cancers worldwide – and its connection to men.
The race will also raise funds for the HPV and Anal Cancer Foundation’s programs. In addition to being coached
how to row by Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Hunter, they will be relying on months of physical training,
preparation of sea-faring, VHF, and first aid theory courses, and most importantly, the support of
family, friends, cancer survivors and rowing enthusiasts.
